INRIA and the University of Rennes 1 have been collaborating since 1980, when the Rennes-Bretagne Atlantique Center was created. On Wednesday January 19, the two establishments signed an agreement which confirms their strategic partnership and formalizes the creation of the "Inria Center of the University of Rennes".This framework agreement will make it possible to amplify their interactions to develop in Rennes a center of excellence in digital sciences visible at the highest international level. The project to build an experimental public institution (EPE), “University of Rennes”, in which the University of Rennes 1, Inria and the partners of the Rennes site are involved, is part of this agreement. As an extension of their scientific collaboration initiated in 1980 in the field of digital sciences and mathematics, Inria and the University of Rennes signed a framework agreement in January 2018. This aimed to develop a coordinated policy in Rennes with the other academic partners of the site, to affirm their competitiveness at the European and international levels.Four years later, on January 19, the two establishments signed a new framework agreement which confirms this collaboration and formalizes the transformation of the “Centre Inria Rennes-Bretagne Atlantique” into the “Centre Inria de l’Université de Rennes”.Inria, the national research institute for digital sciences and technologies, signed a “2019-2023 objectives and performance contract” in October 2019 with the French state, which gave it the “strategic mission of building scientific leadership, technological and industrial in and through digital technology, in France and in Europe.”as well as to “contribute to the development of major world-class university research sites”.Accelerating the creation of start-ups and continuing education are also among these objectives.Currently, Inria participates in the technological development of a dozen major industrial groups such as Airbus, EDF, Naval Group, Nokia, Orange, PSA and, at the same time, in the development of world-class research universities. The University of Rennes 1 is a public institution of a scientific, cultural and professional nature.Research and its promotion are its DNA, the university is a leading actor for training, whether initial or continuous.David Alis, President of the University of Rennes 1, says:“The University of Rennes 1, whose roots go back to the 15th century, considers research and its promotion as a priority, as a distinctive mark that has made its reputation internationally and among companies. At the forefront of knowledge, the establishment is a leading player in lifelong training. This role gives it considerable responsibility vis-à-vis society and makes it an essential driver of the socio-economic and cultural development of the territory. The university relies on a culture of high standards, openness and innovation embodied by quality training that leads its students towards successful professional integration. In France and abroad, we are mobilizing our expertise to meet the societal challenges of digital transformation, sustainable development, health, safety, etc. by developing cooperation to promote exchanges and promote advances in research.”Since 1980, the University of Rennes 1 and the Inria Rennes – Bretagne Atlantique Center have been working closely together, through joint actions such as the Labex Comin Labs and Henri Lebesgue, the EUR Cyberschool and DigiSport, the Competence Center in Cybersecurity C3 or through their joint participation in the Joint Research Units IRISA and IRMAR, in the Images et Réseaux competitiveness cluster and in the IRT.Encouraging and maintaining digital scientific and technological excellence is essential to them. The two establishments recognize the essential role that universities play in training, research and innovation and in their ability to promote the collaboration of different actors (companies, associations, local authorities, universities) within project teams. The collaboration of the Inria Rennes-Bretagne Atlantique Research Center with the University of Rennes 1, the University of Rennes 2, Centrale Supelec, INSA Rennes, ENS Rennes as well as other partner establishments on the Rennes site aims to create project teams which are structured around six main priorities:This agreement has, among other things, formalized the “Inria Center of the University of Rennes”, the new name given to the Rennes-Bretagne Atlantique Research Center. The center has 28 joint project-teams in Rennes (including 24 with the joint research unit IRISA), 1 in Lannion. Its action mobilizes more than 600 people, scientists and research and innovation support staff, from 50 nationalities. It is also deployed in Nantes with 2 joint project-teams with the LS2N (Nantes Digital Science Laboratory).Inria, on the other hand, is committed to the University of Rennes 1, the University of Rennes 2, the National School of Chemistry of Rennes, the School of Advanced Studies in Public Health, the ENS Rennes, INSA Rennes, Sciences Po Rennes, the seven establishments of the UniR territorial coordination created on September 28, 2021 to “bring out a major internationally recognized research and training university.”The experimental public establishment, “University of Rennes” should thus see the light of day at the very beginning of 2023. David Alis declares:“The result of a collective approach undertaken since 2017 in the service of our communities and the territory, the creation of the University of Rennes constitutes an achievement for the Rennes site, its recognition and its attractiveness at European and international level. This new ambitious model gives us all the keys for a transformation that will allow us to better support the major transitions in our territory – health, environment, digital – by making the University of Rennes a “University of transitions”.The new organization will be designed at site level and will aim to further strengthen interdisciplinarity, synergies and opportunities around these three transitions in terms of training and research and collectively achieve the objectives of sustainable development. We will thus strengthen our ability to respond to major national and European calls. In particular, we will promote new integrated master-doctorate-engineering courses, as we have begun to do together with success. The objective is also to intensify the training-research-innovation link, thus amplifying our impact in the service of science, the territory and society.”Frequency Daily Weekly - Monday morning Weekly - Friday afternoonNecessary cookies are absolutely essential for the website to function properly. This category only includes cookies that ensures basic functionalities and security features of the website. These cookies do not store any personal information.Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies. It is mandatory to procure user consent prior to running these cookies on your website.
